Fort Smith Launches Sale of Bicentennial History Book

FORT SMITH, Ark. (April 3, 2017) – Sales of a commemorative book for the Fort Smith’s bicentennial

in 2018 will begin at 11:00 a.m., Monday, April 10, 2017, on the website created for the events planned in 2018, Over 200 color photographs and dozens of rare archival images are featured in the book, titled “Bridging Borders and Time: A Bicentennial Portrait of Fort Smith”.

In the pages of this 248-page coffee-table book, stunning new photography will capture the bustling Fort Smith of today and rare historic photos will chronicle the drama-filled past on the doorstep of the American West.

Nationally prominent photographers visited the city to reveal loved corners of Fort Smith and perhaps even places and events many people never knew about. From neighborhoods and downtown to recreation and natural resources to delightful gems off the beaten path, Fort Smith will come alive in the pages of Bridging Borders and Time.

Speaking about the purpose of this project, Fort Smith Mayor Sandy Sanders said, “This is a wonderful opportunity for people to have a piece of Fort Smith history in their own homes that will be enjoyed by their families for years to come. This limited edition book will tell Fort Smith’s story—past and present—and offer a glimpse of the future. This is the one book that should be on every coffee table.”
